Our Philanthropy:
"To those whom my life may touch in slight
measure, may I give graciously of what is mine."
~Delta Zeta Creed
Service to others, whether in the community, the campus,
or within the Sorority, has been an integral part of Delta Zeta
since its inception. Every chapter devotes much of its attention and
effort to helping where there is a need. The national altruistic project
supported by the collegiate and alumnae chapters is assistance to the
speech and hearing impaired and The Painted Turtle Camp.
The Painted Turtle Camp is located outside of Los Angeles and
hosts chronically and seriously ill children. Our chapter makes items
like nametags and bracelets for campers, and we lend our financial
support to send campers to The Painted Turtle.
The Delta Zeta
Foundation specifically supports Gallaudet University in Washington,
D.C. and the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, California.
Gallaudet University is the only
four-year liberal arts school in the world devoted wholly to the needs,
instruction, and training of young people who are deaf.
The House Ear Institute is one of the world's
foremost rese
arch, teaching, and treatment centers in
the field of hearing. Through our work, we also educate the public on
the challenges that the hearing impaired face.
Local
Delta Zeta's are very active in the
Nacogdoches community and volunteer with several organizations. Some of
our members volunteer with organizations such as Big Jacks, Best
Buddies, and Driving Jacks. Our chapter also visits the local nursing
home to play bingo with the residents, hosts canned food drives,
volunteers at the Nacogdoches County Animal Shelter, and hosts blood
drives.
Delta Zeta's
also reach outside our immediate area by going on Mission Trips to South
America and Eastern Europe. Our chapter also supports Deaf Awareness
Week in late September. The ladies of Delta Zeta are always looking for
new places to make a difference through volunteerism.
One of our
favorite new projects, that is supported by our chapter and by Delta
Zeta nationally, is Pink Goes Green. Pink Goes Green is an initiative to
encourage all Delta Zetas to live a "greener" life. Locally our chapter
has adopted a highway that we clean-up twice per semester.
